4-Sensor Camera Calibration for Image Representation Invariant to ShadingShadowsLightingand Specularities

چکیده
Most lighting can be accurately modeled using a simplified Planckian function. If we form logarithms of color ratios of camera sensor values, then in a Lambertian plus specular two-lobe model of reflection the temperaturedependent term is separate and is seen as a straight line: i.e., changing lighting amounts to changing each pixel value in a straight line, for a given camera. Here we use a 4sensor camera. In this case, forming color ratios reduces the dimensionality to 3. Applying logarithms and projecting onto the plane in the 3D color space orthogonal to the lightchange direction results in an image representation that is invariant to illumination change. For a given camera, the position of the specular point in the 2D plane is always the same, independent of the lighting. Thus a camera calibration produces illumination invariance at a single pixel. In the plane, matte surfaces reduce to points and specularities are almost straight lines. Extending each pixel value back to the matte position, postulated to be the maximum radius from the fixed specular point, at any angle in the 2D plane, removes specularity. Thus images are independent of shading (by forming ratios), independent of shadows (by making them independent of illumination temperature) and independent of specularities. The method is examined by forming 4D images from hyperspectral images, using real camera sensors, with encouraging results.

Color Constancy with Specular and Non-Specular Surfaces
There is a growing trend in machine color constancy research to use only image chromaticity information, ignoring the magnitude of the image pixels. This is natural because the main purpose is often to estimate only the chromaticity of the illuminant. However, the magnitudes of the image pixels also carry information about the chromaticity of the illuminant. One such source of information is th...

The aim of this paper is to describe the data-fusion acquired from a CCD camera and a thermal imager. The fusion is realized by means of spatial data from a TOF camera to ensure ”natural” representation of a robot’s environment; thus, the thermal and CCD camera data are comprised in one stereo image presented to a binocular, head-mounted display. The data acquisition is performed using a sensor...

ii Abstract Specularities and shadows often confound algorithms designed to solve computer vision tasks such as image segmentation, object detection and tracking. In this thesis, an illumination compensation technique that detects and removes both specularities and shadows is proposed. The method requires no camera calibration or other a priori information regarding the scene. This thesis also ...

The invariant image [1, 2] formed from an RGB image taken under light that can be approximated as Planckian solves the colour constancy problem at a single pixel. The invariant is a very useful tool for possible use in a large number of computer vision problems, such as removal of shadows from images [3]. This image is formed by projecting log-log chromaticity coordinates into a 1D direction de...

We propose a system for robust modeling and visualisation of complex outdoor scenes from multi-camera image sequences and additional sensor information. A camera rig with one or more fire-wire cameras is used in conjunction with a 3-axis rotation sensor to robustly obtain a calibration of the scene with an uncalibrated structure from motion approach. Dense depth maps are estimated with multi-vi...
